August 26, 2008, Denver, CO
August 25--Following a healthcare panel moderated by The Nation’s John Nichols, Progressive Democrats of America Healthcare NOT Warfare national co-chairs, Rep. John Conyers, D-MI, and Donna Smith of the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee stopped in the green room to chat about the activities at Progressive Central and how PDA has been moving the progressive agenda over the past few weeks. See the clip,
here.
Progressive Central at 1660 Sherman St, has already been the site of some tremendous conversations and continues to be the place where activists, delegates and elected leaders are gathering to raise the progressive voice at the DNC convention.
Rep. Conyers is the primary sponsor of HR676, The National Health Insurance Act, which already has 91 Congressional co-sponsors. The act drafts single payer healthcare reform for the nation. Conyers and Smith were joined on the panel by PDA’s Norman Solomon, another co-chair of the Healthcare NOT Warfare campaign, author of “War Made Easy” and political historian; Dr. Rocky White, author of “Healthcare Meltdown” and member of Physicians for a National Health Program; and Geri Jenkins of the CNA/NNOC Council of Presidents, the nation’s largest professional nurses’ union with more than 85,000 members in all 50 states.
PDA’s healthcare panel was streamed live over the Web and enjoyed the highest viewership of any PDA produced live video stream to date. Watch The Nation and PDA panels live on the
PDA blog.
